Copperfield offers free home security check

With one home in the UK burgled every 40 seconds Coppefield is offering free home security checks throughout Coventry.

Statistics show that more than half of all break-ins are committed through ground floor windows and doors, which makes choosing high security windows and doors critical in protecting your home.

Although new doors and windows feature multi-point locking and anti-bump and anti-drill cylinders.

Coppefield has published the following guidance to help homeowners carry out home security checks:

• If you have recently moved home, change the locks – you don’t know how many keys are in circulation or who has them
• Make sure doors are ‘solid’ for example, high performance composite doors are made from a solid door leaf which is almost impossible for burglars to get through
• Always remove keys from locks at night. A large proportions of burglaries are committed by simply breaking a window and reaching in and turning a door key.
• Make sure that your door features multi-point locking which anchors the leaf (the opening part) to the frame using shoot-bolts and hooks.
• If your windows aren’t lockable, replacement them at the earliest opportunity
• And lock windows and doors at night or when you’re not at home – it sounds obvious but  high proportion of burglaries are committed through unlocked doors and windows!
