Seeing the light

Recent studies shows that natural light plays an important part in not only cutting energy consumption our home energy bills but also on our health and well-being.

Commissioned by the Government, the study by Loughborough University found that the highest consuming 20% of households used over 760 kWh/year for lighting, while the lowest-consuming households used only 150 kWh/year.

Drilling down into the detail the authors of the report found that high energy users were often those with high daytime lighting consumption. Craig Smith, Director Copperfield Windows mentions “Natural light delivers multiple benefits. It reduces energy consumption and with it, the amount that we pay for our energy bills but it also has a massive impact on how we feel about life and our health and well-being. “Going into the winter things can become a little bit miserable and it’s tempting to switch on lighting around your home but the costs can add up. “Increasing the glazing in your property can help to keep these long term costs down but through the creation of spaces filled with natural light, can also contribute to your health and well-being.”

Copperfield Windows, offers a comprehensive range of energy efficient windows and doors. These can help you bring more natural light into your home and significantly improve its security, while advanced thermal performance can help you cut the heat lost from your home.

Coppefield Windows, also supplies an extensive range of conservatories, orangeries and glazed extensions. A cost effective and highly flexible way of adding space to your home, combined with bi-fold doors or patio doors, they provide a light-filled space, connection your home to your garden, allowing you to enjoy it throughout the year.

Hybrid glazed extension systems bring in more brickwork to offer highly flexible and light filled family living spaces, suitable for use as a kitchen, office or gym.

Craig, said: “Going into the autumn and winter things always get a little murky but the right doors and windows or glazed extension or conservatory can help bring light into your home year round, reducing energy costs and creating great and highly flexible living spaces.”
